Some English words keep letters you never hear — the k in knife, the w in wrap, the b in lamb. Pip calls them sleepy letters: they're still in the word, tucked up with a little 💤, they just don't make a sound. Children meet them family by family (k & w, then b & l, then h, g & t, then gh, u, c, n & p), and practise four ways: spotting the silent letter, filling it back into a gap, deciding whether a word has one at all, and sorting words into trays by which letter sleeps.
